Strength on the Trail — and Off It: Supporting Kassi After a Tragic Road Rage Accident

When we talk about the Trailside Expressions community, we often talk about the brush strokes, the hikes, and the inspiration of nature. But part of what makes our art family so special is how we support each other not just on the trail, but through life’s most difficult moments.

Today, I want to bring attention to someone deeply loved by Selina McKee — her sister, Kassi — who was severely injured in a road rage–related accident. The story is harrowing, but it’s also a story of hope, community, and how much the care of family and friends can matter.

What happened

Selina shared that Kassi was involved in a serious collision sparked by road rage. The physical and emotional toll has been immense, and the sudden medical and recovery costs are overwhelming. Her GoFundMe describes the urgent need to support Kassi through surgeries, therapy, and the long road ahead.

Why this matters

Road rage is more than a catchphrase — it’s a growing and dangerous phenomenon. Studies show that nearly 96% of drivers admit to engaging in aggressive driving or road rage behaviors at least once a year.
Aggressive driving is not just irritating: it’s linked to a majority of traffic fatalities.
And many drivers feel the problem is getting worse — for example, 76% of people say road rage has increased in recent years.
In other words, Kassi’s accident isn’t just a personal tragedy — it’s part of a broader public-safety issue that affects us all.

How community helps

This is where the power of trail friends and family comes in. Just as we rally around an artist when they’re promoting a new piece, we can rally around Kassi when she needs us most.

  • Our community can lend not just emotional support, but concrete help: donating, sharing her GoFundMe link, and raising awareness.
  • We can honor her journey by reminding others that driving is not just a means to get somewhere — it’s a shared space, and respect matters.
  • As artists, we can also use our voices and our platforms to highlight road rage awareness. Whether that is through a painting, a social media post, or just conversations in our circles.

If you have a moment, please take a look at Kassi’s GoFundMe: Support Kassi Through This Medical Emergency

  • If you’re able, a donation — big or small — will help cover critical medical and recovery costs.
  • If you can’t donate, you can still help: sharing her story brings visibility, and that matters more than we often realize.
  • If you know of road-safety or mental-health organizations, connect us! We’d love to amplify resources and possibly direct some of this momentum into advocacy.

Why I believe in this

Because trail life has taught me something: we’re stronger together. On a mountain, a steep climb doesn’t feel so high when friends are around to encourage each other. In real life, a crisis doesn’t feel so lonely when you’re surrounded by people who care.

Kassi’s path forward may be long, but she doesn’t walk it alone. Her sister, her family, her artist-friends — and now, all of us — are with her every step of the way.

Thank you for reading, for believing, and for being part of this caring, creative family.
